Henry update: he’s now 4 months old weighing in at 5 pounds, he was recently diagnosed with a subluxation of his right hip joint in connection to his existing injuries (also on his right side)…coming to the conclusion he was most likely attacked/pulled/dragged and/or dropped by something — and he was able to get away ❤️‍🩹 He will have some minor physical limitations, but he’s such a fighter!!! He is so much loved and He’s now been accepted into the brotherhood of brochachos.
Current Likes: neck cuddles, watching tv, playing with water and tuna fish!

This new endeavor as a Pilates instructor will give my body time to rest, and to challenge myself to create beauty in a new form and hopefully inspire people without being too hard on my body. I don’t want to be a burnt out, washed up stylist doing lousy hair. As you all know, HiLi is an environment I’ve been very involved + in love with for years.
Clients—what does this mean for you?
I will be working with an assistant in the new year, but honestly not much will change because I am still so passionate about hair and you guys are the best always supporting me through every stage of life, some of you since I was still in school! 🫶

-I’ll be intensively selective with new client inquiries
-I will not be downsizing my client list, no one will be “fired” or “canceled”
-my body will get a break from blowdries and shampoos (that is where my assistant will step in) can’t keep missing meals y’all! 🤪🤣
-the assistant will be handling texting/scheduling during business hours.
-I will be at HiLi Oviedo select days/times that don’t interfere with salon days.

I’d like to introduce you to a new addition to m

I’d like to introduce you to a new addition to my family. Meet Henry Catvill, cat of steel, Aka Forky.

He was brought to me with a severe eye injury, broken tail, scraped up, completely consumed by fleas and worms at 4 weeks old, found in a neighborhood. I had set him up with a foster and planned to take him to the vet the next morning who would do the exchange. He was in such a fragile, delicate state, the vet suggested I keep him for until he regains some strength since he was so weak and small, and the costs and attention he would require. He saw a kitty ophthalmologist that diagnosed him with a corneal rupture and conjunctivitis. He could not see out of the eye, but was hopeful he would make a full recovery. He was on 3 different eye drops that had to be done every 4 hours. Henry was severely dehydrated, under 1 pound, and weened too early. I had to bottle feed him every 3-4 hours. Daily baths to eradicate the fleas and don’t even get me started on the de-worming process…#traumatized…he was quarantined from my other babies for 2 weeks. He was still learning how to use a little box and how to eat on his own so we had some accidents and a lot of clean ups! BOY! Did no one prepare me for all of that 😹 It was a tough go around of things those first 2 weeks even with him being subdued and weak. I’m not sure what happened to little forky before we found him, but just the thought based on what his injuries makes me shutter. Jokes on me, I didn’t give him back. #fosterfail

when he had strength to fight me on the eye drops and started to play, I knew he was improving. He now weights 2.5 lbs and 9.5 weeks old, still a little guy. His tail and hip injury tbd, flea and worm free!!! He likes seafood, kisses and cuddles. He’s becoming more independent from me every week, and it’s such a beautiful but bittersweet feeling. He can see but will keep a scar. I spared you all from the graphic pics but if you want to see how he looked when I got him, I will share with you 🫶 shoutout to Dr Olsen at @bluepearlmaitland and Dr Villar with Animal eye associates. And of course thank you to the OG, my mom!! @pastor_florharre

Really love what I do, even on the harder days when I’m mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausted. If you have a regular hair person, tell them how much you appreciate their art and for keeping their arms in the same spot for 8 hours+. Check in with them, Make sure they know you care about them as a person not just as a service provider. Tell them thank you. If you trauma dump on them, ask first if they are in a mental space to be able to handle it that day. One more pro tip: DONT WEAR WHITE OR CREAM COLORED CLOTHES TO YOUR APPOINTMENT 😂 As I age in the hair industry, I realize something in me has shifted. I’m finding that I can make my own experience with each individual guest, and it doesn’t have to be perfect but it can be peaceful, supportive and safe for both the client and the hairstylist. If you have been to my suite, you know how beautiful and different the environment is 🤍 also please show love and show support to anyone else owning a small business, it’s a hard time right now for many reasons…🖤have a beautiful weekend🫶

I don’t have the heart to break my clients’…but sometimes I don’t have a choice. I took this picture to show my client that her previous extension install caused breakage on every point of contact 😳 this was a new client so I have to earn her trust and show her what we have to focus on to remedy this going forward even if it hurts her to see…this breakage so close to the scalp can be caused from so many different reasons:
1-not coming in for regular maintenance/going too long between move ups (5-7 weeks is recommended)
2-not having enough hair in the bead section/applying too many beads
3-wrong bead size for hair type (yes they have different sizes)
4-not using silicone lined beads
5-wet installs (done on wet hair, yes, some people do this 🤦‍♀️)when the hair elasticity is at its maximum
6-applying vigorous amounts of product at root to weigh down baby hair before installation, thus trapping that with hair in the bead until next move up, the hair comes out with the bead.

Moral of the story is. What’s happening under the hood of your extensions?! Make sure you have open communication with your stylist and you are able to have candid conversations about hair health and create a regimen for at home care in between coloring and move up sessions and make sure you are doing the right method for your hair type 🫶 any extensions or color service can be damaging BUT NOT LIKE THIS
